Dr. Forrest Helvie lives in Newington, CT with his wife and two middle school-aged children. He is a long-time educator and academic leader within Connecticut’s community college system. He is a passionate advocate for ensuring all students have access to a quality public education that encourages their mental, emotional, and academic growth with multiple pathways for students to pursue after high school: college, technical or trade school, direct entry to the work force, or enlistment into military service.

Dr. Helvie is someone who believes in public service. He began a career in teaching after completing service to his country as an Army combat officer. He also volunteers regularly as a Cub Scout leader and works in his church to support local organizations like Got Lunch Newington and Family Promise, which address food security and homelessness. Now, he seeks to leverage his professional experiences and passion to continue to find ways to serve and support Newington, CT as a member of the board of education.
