Rep. Zakiya Summers
2023 Endorsement
Zakiya is a civil rights activist and servant leader currently serving her first term as State Representative for House District 68. Her district covers portions of West and South Jackson, Byram, and Terry in Hinds County, and Pearl and Richland in Rankin County. Prior to her current role, Zakiya was the former Election Commissioner for Hinds County District 3 and former Director of Communications and Advocacy for the ACLU of Mississippi. Over the past decade, she has led campaigns to address systemic barriers at the intersections of voting rights, criminal justice, educational equity, healthcare access, and racial justice. Zakiya is also actively involved in various organizations, including Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., Refill Jackson Initiative, and Leadership Greater Jackson. She received her BA in Broadcast Journalism from the University of Missouri-Columbia and is pursuing a master’s in public policy from Jackson State University. Zakiya and her family live in West Jackson, where she is dedicated to serving her constituents and advocating for transparency and equity in government.
