Katy is a 24-year-old endorsed Run for Something candidate running for the West Chester Area school board in Region 1. Katy is a new parent and lifelong resident of the area. She graduated from Unionville High School and earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Florida in environmental management, African American studies, and communications. She is currently pursuing a master's in social work from Temple University. Katy has worked as a policy staff writer for Ballotpedia, covering different policy topics such as public education, criminal justice reform, and environmental social governance. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, solving crossword puzzles, and trying out plant-based restaurants in the area.
Katy is passionate about fostering inclusive learning environments for all students, including LGBTQ+ youth, BIPOC, and students with disabilities. As the mother of a biracial child, Katy is committed to ensuring that every student feels accepted and appreciated in the classroom. She hopes to continue building upon the diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives already taking place within the West Chester Area School District if elected. Katy is also concerned about the threat of gun violence in schools and is vocal about banning assault weapons and pushing for stricter gun legislation. In addition, she plans to advocate for greater mental health resources for teachers, support staff, and students.
