Manny Rutinel

State House, District 32, CO

2024 Endorsement

Manny is an environmental lawyer and advocate for the working class who has set his sights on Colorado’s House District 32, one of the most polluted areas in the country. Raised by a single mother who immigrated from the Dominican Republic in search of a better life for her children, Manny experienced firsthand the struggles of growing up surrounded by polluted air and financial insecurity. Throughout his youth, he juggled part-time jobs, including a stint at McDonald's, while also serving as a tutor at Kumon. Determined to pursue higher education despite financial hardships, Manny took advantage of community college courses, ultimately obtaining his Associate's degree shortly after completing high school.

During the difficult times of the Great Recession, Manny and his mother faced the devastating loss of their home. Undeterred by these setbacks, Manny persisted in his studies and successfully earned a Master's degree in Economics from Johns Hopkins University, followed by a law degree from Yale Law School. His perseverance and resilience through adversities are exemplified by the scar on his arm, a reminder of the countless plasma donations he made to make ends meet.

Upon entering his professional career, Manny joined Earthjustice as an environmental attorney. In this capacity, he dedicated himself to challenging major corporations that prioritize profit over the protection of our precious air, water, and land resources. Through his efforts, Manny aimed to hold these corporations accountable for their destructive practices.

Now, Manny is ready to take his commitment to environmental justice and advocacy for the working class even further by running for office in Colorado’s House District 32. With his diverse background, deep understanding of economic matters, and unwavering determination, Manny aspires to create a healthier, more prosperous future for his community and beyond.
