Matthew Gerding

Matt is an experienced educator and dedicated public servant with a passion for the outdoors and the creative arts. With over 8 years of teaching experience, he has consistently found ways to incorporate his interests into his lessons, which has allowed him to connect with his students on a deeper level.

Currently serving as a City Councilor in Somersworth, Matt is committed to making positive changes in his community. His notable achievements on City Council include the approval of a new fire station, the redesign of two city parks, and significant investments in streets and sidewalks. He takes pride in prioritizing sustainability, education, and the beautification of Somersworth.

In addition to his extensive background in education and public service, Matt has deep roots in New Hampshire. He completed his undergraduate degree at the University of New Hampshire and later pursued a Masters of Public Policy at the Carsey School, also at the University of New Hampshire. While at the Carsey School, he had the opportunity to contribute to the New Hampshire Commission to Study School Funding, which concluded its important work in 2020.

Outside of his professional pursuits, Matt indulges in his hobbies, such as gardening, hiking, and painting. He finds solace and inspiration in nature, and these activities allow him to recharge and express his creativity.
