Placido Gomez

Plácido is a dedicated educator with a passion for enhancing educational opportunities and outcomes for students impacted by educational inequality. Currently vying for a position on the Houston Independent School District (HISD) school board, his goal is to provide additional support to struggling schools and students. Drawing from personal experience, Plácido attended a high school where only 60% of his classmates went on to graduate, allowing him to deeply comprehend the profound consequences of extreme inequality. Consequently, he remains steadfast in his commitment to ensuring our children have the essential resources for success.

Prior to entering the school board race, Plácido worked as a high school math teacher and employed his extensive organizational skills as a campaign organizer. Most notably, he served as the Field Organizing Director for Beto O'Rourke's highly consequential 2022 Texas gubernatorial campaign, with his team responsively knocking on nearly 5 million doors during the lead-up to the election. Plácido’s educational background includes a bachelor's degree in Mathematical Economic Analysis from Rice University, as well as a master's degree in Education Policy and Management from the esteemed Harvard Graduate School of Education. With these qualifications, he is equipped to proactively address the challenges faced by our educational system and contribute to its positive transformation.
