Brandon Washington

City Council, Super District 9 Position 2, Memphis, TN

2023 Endorsement

Brandon is a lifelong Memphian who has witnessed the city's challenges firsthand. After graduating from the Memphis Shelby County School System, he was awarded the prestigious Posse Foundation Leadership Scholarship to attend Rhodes College. Currently pursuing a degree in Russian and International Studies, with a minor in politics and law, Brandon is set to graduate in 2026.

Throughout his 20 years in Memphis, Brandon has observed the worsening issues facing the city. Noticing a lack of receptive ears among current lawmakers, he became determined to take matters into his own hands. Brandon's significant achievement in expanding S.N.A.P. benefits to transiting foster youth in the Fiscal Responsibility Act of 2023 served as a catalyst for his realization. He understood that he didn't have to rely on existing politicians to address these problems; his own voice could be a powerful tool for change.

Recognizing the need for youth empowerment and resources, Brandon embraced the idea that young individuals are capable of making a difference in the world. By running for office, he aims to become the youngest ever member of the City Council and the first black representative in his seat. Brandon firmly believes that in order for Memphis to progress, the status quo must be challenged.

Motivated by a genuine desire to give Memphis a fighting chance, Brandon's candidacy is driven by the belief that the city matters. With his determination to effect positive change and amplify the voices of his fellow citizens, he hopes to usher in a new era of growth and progress for Memphis.
