Chinua Rhodes

Chinua is a dedicated community leader and advocate for educational equity. He currently holds the position of Trustee for Area 5 on the Sacramento City Unified Board of Education. Raised in South Sacramento, Rhodes has firsthand knowledge of the challenges faced by the local public school system. Drawing on his personal experience, he actively works to address the needs of his community.

During his time as a school board trustee, Chinua has initiated impactful programs. Notably, he raised the Trans flag to symbolize his district's commitment to inclusivity in the face of societal obstacles. His goal is to create a safe and supportive environment where everyone feels acknowledged and valued. Chinua has also played a leading role in renaming three schools to promote cultural diversity and respect. These schools now bear the names Miwok Middle School, Suy:u Elementary, and Umoja International Academy.

Beyond his policy work, Rhodes actively engages in community events. He strongly believes in fostering positive role models and providing leadership opportunities for youth in the area. Rhodes' service on the Sacramento City Unified Board of Education highlights his unwavering dedication to educational equity, community involvement, and the creation of conducive learning environments.
