Laura Brubaker

Laura has dedicated the past 5 years to advocating for students in special education within her community. She played a key role in saving a preschool program for autistic students by uniting with parents to lobby the public school district. During the pandemic, she organized a weekly food distribution from her front lawn to combat food insecurity in her neighborhood. Laura actively served on school committees to ensure that all students were prioritized in decision-making processes. She also led a successful recall of a school board trustee who attempted to sow division with extremist views.

Coming from a family of educators, Laura recognizes the importance of public schools in fostering healthy communities. Her goals include developing innovative approaches to address the youth mental health crisis, advocating for improvements in special education, and promoting equity for all students in her community.
