Armando Montero

Armando, at 19 years old, made history by becoming the youngest individual elected to the Tempe Union Governing Board in 2020. Currently serving as the President for the second consecutive year, he previously held the position of Vice President in 2021. Armando prioritizes advocating for students and families on important issues such as mental health, fiscal responsibility, and equity and inclusion. Under his leadership, the Tempe Union District has achieved significant milestones, including implementing a comprehensive mental health policy and restructuring governance to enhance student outcomes and transparency. With a background in Political Science, Economics, and Mathematics, Armando brings a diverse skill set to his role as a Senior Planning Analyst at ASU's Education Outreach and Student Services department. He also represents Maricopa County on the Board of Directors of the Arizona School Boards Association and was chosen as a Harry S Truman Scholar in 2022, showcasing his commitment to education and public service. Armando is currently running for re-election to continue his impactful work within the Tempe Union community.
