Larry McBurney
2024 Endorsement
Larry, a native of central Iowa, serves in the Iowa Air National Guard and has completed three deployments in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom/Enduring Freedom. Alongside his wife, Luisita, he manages a nonprofit organization, the Filipino American Society, catering to Filipino-Americans in Iowa. In 2021, Larry secured a seat on the Urbandale City Council. The couple, proud parents of three children, navigated their offspring through the public school system. Larry is now vying for a position in the Iowa House of Representatives, driven by personal encounters with legislation originating from the Capitol. Having faced PTSD post his Iraq deployment, Larry advocates for improved mental healthcare access in a state ranking low in essential healthcare metrics. In addition, the family's background has sensitized them to the challenges immigrants face due to stringent laws. Their LGBTQIA+ daughter's experiences underscore the importance of upholding rights for marginalized communities. Having firsthand experience with Iowa's education system, Larry appreciates the invaluable contributions of educators and the critical role of programs like AEA in supporting vulnerable populations.
