Megan Srinivas

Megan grew up in Iowa as the daughter of Indian immigrants. In third grade, she volunteered in homeless and domestic abuse shelters. Since then, she has dedicated her life to addressing public health issues. In 2003, Secretary Vilsack appointed Megan as the first student on the Iowa Board of Education. At 16, she worked in Kenya analyzing household food security and was recognized by the World Food Prize for outstanding contribution to hunger issues. In college, Megan led a non-profit teaching comprehensive health education in socioeconomically-disadvantaged schools. During graduate school, she investigated healthcare discrimination impeding HIV treatment. Megan advocates for patients everyday in her work as a physician.
