Calvin Deutschbein is a rising third year Ph.D. student in Computer Science at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He has worked to improve education in communities since sixth grade when he first began working with his local school board and since then has worked in academic advising, admissions, and recruitment with the University of Chicago, taught classes and designed curriculum, and worked to close the gender gap in STEM fields alongside Society of Women Engineers and Graduate Women in Computer Science. He advocates for equality and justice in Chapel Hill as a member of student government, as a member of the Community Policing Advisory Committee, and with Orange County Justice United as a parishioner at the Catholic Community of St. Thomas More.
