Luke Evslin
2020 Endorsement
Luke is currently serving his first term on the Kaua’i County Council where he introduced and passed more than 10 bills relating to affordable housing. He is the co-founder and managing partner of an outrigger canoe manufacturing shop that has currently transitioned to making 3,000 face shields per week for medical professionals and is currently in his final semester of a Master’s degree in public administration with a certificate in public policy. Luke lives with his wife, two young children, two cats, two dogs, and a chicken.
He has been a staunch advocate for policies to reduce the cost of housing and to do it in a way that reduces traffic and carbon emissions. The island’s housing crisis has been devastating for his generation and so many others, and many of the primary solutions– such as reducing barriers to home construction within town cores– can help ensure that anyone can afford a home close to where they work. Luke believes that along with reducing the cost of housing, these types of policies can help reduce commute times and help get the island on track to the necessary goal of zero carbon emissions by 2050.
